Everyone is sleeping at the lonely farm in the middle of the forest – everyone, that is, except the Tomten, a kindly old troll who lives in a corner of the hayloft by day and guards the farm by night.

No one in the farmers family has ever seen the Tomten, but they know he is there, watching over the farm as they sleep.  And sometimes, just sometimes, the children wake to see his tiny footprints in the snow.
